Sometimes a complicated Connections puzzle can make your brain feel a little warped, but we can help you straighten that out. Today’s puzzle has two categories that have to do with measurements, which can make it more complicated than it actually is. Once you figure out what the categories are asking, you will have a much easier time deciphering the puzzle as a whole. And if that is the case, you will not have to worry about your streak anymore.
If you like making Connections, you will also like the matching game Tiles, which forms links in another way. You will have to make matches layer-by-layer, examining each picture for patterns that match another one. Each match you make will add to your streak, and as that streak gets longer your score will get much higher. Once you finish the puzzle, you can compare your past scores to see how much better you did than before.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
NOVEMBER 09 #517
Figuring out what to separate out from the other words can be the hardest part of the Connections puzzle every day. While one of the categories stands out in today’s puzzle, the others are a little harder. You will need to know very specific terms in order to guess which is which, but we can help make that easier for you by giving you the following clues:
- One category is about the way things are shaped
- One category is about physical measurements of things
- One category is about words that are used in a specific subject at school
- One category is about words that all can be used in combination with another word to mean a specific place

BENT |
GNARLY |
TWISTED |
WARPED |
This was the category that stood out the most to me as I was solving the puzzle. I for one am a sucker for GNARLY and TWISTED trees, and I have a photo album dedicated solely to the subject. That likely helped this category stand out to me, but I did think ROOT might be in this category. However, I guessed BENT first and that turned out to be the right call. I then happily put twisted trees in the background of all the images in this article and was very pleased about it.

OUNCE |

TRACE |
This one and the next category are likely the two easiest to confuse and get tangled. They are all measurements of a kind, and OUNCE would be pretty easy to put into the next category without thinking too much of it. POWDER is also one that could belong here, but it does not fit in quite as well as the rest of them. TRACE does make POWDER look a little more likely, and it is a potential pitfall. It is more clear once you get to the final category, however, which words do not belong here.

This one may catch your eye depending on how much you remember about Algebra or if you have had to use math post-high school. I did recognize EXPONENT, and when I saw POWER in the puzzle as well I thought it might just be different types of superscripts. However, looking around, I might not have seen any more of those, but I did see RADICAL and I came back to ROOT after not using it in the first category. It’s been a while since I’ve done any math, so I was pleased that I got that far.

BATH |
POWDER |
REST |
THRONE |
This last category is interesting in that you may have never heard of one or more of these words. I did not put this one together, as I came to these words last and was able to guess all of them without thinking about it. While I have heard of all of these before, not many of them are used to describe a lavatory in everyday language. I do enjoy solving the last four words every day though, as it is quite satisfying to finish off the puzzle without having to think about it anymore.
