Solving today’s Connections puzzle can be a challenge if you do not know what to look for. There are some overlapping words that will make things more difficult and a few key distinctions between categories that you will have to understand to figure out what goes where. To help you solve those conundrums in the shortest amount of time possible, we have everything you need in order to finish up your Connections game without losing your streak.

If you are looking to play another game today, you should check out the NYT’s Spelling Bee puzzle for a different type of word-based play. This one will ask you to construct words as opposed to categorize them. It is a different kind of challenge and one you should be well prepared for after a lot of time with Connections.

When trying to solve this puzzle, I found there were just enough overlapping words to make things harder to solve rather than easier. A couple of these words could fit into multiple categories, adding to the chaos rather than making it easier. To help you find your way through the cobwebs that I got stuck in, I have a nice feather duster of clues waiting for you below.

One category is about a place that is unobstructed where it should not be
One category is about things you have to know in order to perform one activity well
One category is about four things that you can make something with creatively
One category is about a three-word phrase where the first word changes while the last two words are a fairly common prepositional phrase

Strands is one of New York Times’ many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6×8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

This first category was the easiest one to guess in my opinion, but there was still a word that made it a little confusing. This was because of NICK, which can mean the same thing as a lot of the other words in this category. I think the main determining factor here is that a nick does not necessarily go all the way through an object the same way as a HOLE, LEAK, or PUNCTURE. CRACK is not necessarily something that goes all the way through either, but a crack is more definitively a FISSURE than a nick is.

This category was also fairly simple but that could all depend on the order you guess words in. PASSAGE is a strong choice that could fit here easily and there’s really no reason it shouldn’t go here. In fact, a case could be made for passage to go into every category, but choosing the right one becomes a lot harder. It is the largest “unit” of writing here, but it is a crucial piece despite that. Luckily, I decided to try the smallest units first and managed to get it right.

Wordle is a simple daily word game that has taken the internet by storm. With only 6 chances to get the right answer, players may need a little help.

This one was a bit more confusing for me as I figured it out. At first, I thought it might just be any kind of instrument, but it is a little more specific than that. I had it narrowed to PIPE, RECORDER, and WHISTLE, but I thought a case could be made for SANDS, and PASSAGE is again a piece of music. Or, alternatively, something the wind could blow through, which I thought might also be a contender for the category theme. In the end, it was JUG, which is a more improvised instrument than some of these others.

With both NICK and PASSAGE possibly belonging everywhere else, this one was a little harder to narrow down before the last category. It was hard to figure out, and I am glad that I got to the end of the puzzle, but disappointed in how many turns it took me to get there. With fewer guesses wasted on NICK, it would have been a very different story. At least we got there just in the nick of time, or perhaps before we wasted all of it.
