People hold Connections to a high standard, with the score holding a lot of weight every day. To help you keep that high standard, it sometimes takes a few nudges in the form of hints and tricks to make it. Particularly in more challenging puzzles, figuring out where the words are supposed to go can take a lot of effort, which we are here to help you do.
If you want to try another type of puzzle, something that can make your brain work in other ways is The Password Game which changes daily. While the rules for the password you have to make remain the same, the requirements that the rules ask you to fulfill change. This means it is a new challenge every time you attempt it and something you will have to navigate to get to the final rule daily.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
September 27 #473
Today’s categories have some different overlaps than usual in that there are a lot of very scientific words that all could go together in one way or another. There is also the very general word “thing,” which can always throw a wrench into any puzzle due to the vagueness of the meaning. To help make that a little easier to sort out, here are four clues:
- One category is about landscaping.
- One category is about describing how something feels.
- One category is about what you can do if you join this competition.
- One category is about a specific media genre and titles in that genre.
If you still need that nudge to continue sorting all these words into their correct places, knowing exactly what the category is can give you everything you need. To that end, we have all four category names listed below for you to see.

AREA OF HIGH GROUND |

BANK |
DUNE |
HILL |
MOUND |
Obi-Wan Kenobi would be very proud of this category, and he would presumably seek out all these high places to take over. Most of these areas are very similar, but DUNE is a potential word that could end up in a lot of other categories. This is because it is a sci-fi movie, many in fact. As a franchise, it might even be more well-known than the others. However, once you know that the purple category name means the title has to include “the” you know it belongs here instead.

SIGNIFICANCE |

---|---|---|---|
GRAVITY |
IMPORT |
SUBSTANCE |
WEIGHT |
Again, there is very much a sci-fi theme in today’s puzzle, with GRAVITY also having that connotation. However, the key to this category is to pay attention to WEIGHT and SUBSTANCE. This is a weighty theme and something that you could easily group gravity with. Adding IMPORT is a little harder, as you have to realize that it does not mean physical weight but the “significance” of something, but there are not any other words that have that same gravitas.

ACTIONS IN FANTASY SPORTS |

---|---|---|---|
BENCH |
DRAFT |
START |
TRADE |
This one is tricky if you are not involved in fantasy sports, but perhaps if you do not like sports, you do know sci-fi movies and can get the last category first. However, if you do not know either, you will have to make some deductions. BENCH and DRAFT are most likely to convey a sports theme, but START and TRADE could be a little harder. The best you can likely do is figure out that these words have nothing to do with area or significance. They also do not have the same sci-fi meaning as the others.

ABYSS |
FLY |
MATRIX |
THING |
MATRIX is likely the most popular answer here, which makes it easier to spot for people who are only loosely aware of sci-fi movies. However, for others, figuring out what to do with THING might be challenging without the category knowledge. GRAVITY and DUNE are both options that might trick you, but you can narrow this down by solving the first two categories. FLY is something I could see put in the blue category for those unsuspecting. However, if these are the only words you have left, you can put the weird words together, which is likely enough.
Other Games Like Connections
Instead of guessing two intersecting words, you can try to solve two words separately by trying out the daily Dordle puzzle. This is tricky but twice the fun and double the challenge as the regular Wordle.
