Summary
- Batista must confront Dexter in Resurrection to fulfill unresolved storyline from New Blood and avoid disappointing fans.
- The return of Angel Batista in Resurrection is a promising sign for the series to deliver strong content and match the hype.
- Resurrection should not waste the opportunity to bring Batista back and create compelling tension by featuring a Dexter-Batista confrontation.
The upcoming Dexter sequel series Dexter: Resurrection must finally deliver a long-awaited confrontation between Angel Batista and Dexter Morgan. Dexter: Resurrection is expected to begin filming in January 2025, one month after the premiere of the upcoming prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. It’s more than likely that showrunner Clyde Phillips has already worked out a proper method for convincingly carrying on the torch of Dexter, even after the titular protagonist was already confirmed to be dead at the end of Dexter: New Blood.
Dexter: Resurrection came as a major surprise announcement at the “Dexter: Original Sin” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Michael C. Hall shocked audiences when he appeared onstage and also revealed that he would provide the voiceover narration for Patrick Gibson’s version of college-aged Dexter in Original Sin. These two major announcements that confirm Hall’s involvement are massive signs of promise for the two Dexter spin-offs, but now they will have to match the hype and deliver strong content.
Dexter: Resurrection Can’t Waste Angel Batista Discovering Dexter’s True Identity Again
If Batista isn’t featured in Dexter: Resurrection, it would be a gigantic missed opportunity
David Zayas’ return as Angel Batista in Dexter: New Blood was arguably wasted and was a big complaint about the New Blood finale. Dexter: Resurrection now has the opportunity to pay off the return of Batista after he began suspecting Dexter’s true identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher towards the end of New Blood. Batista discovered that Dexter was still alive in the first Dexter sequel series and went to find him with LaGuerta’s Bay Harbor Butcher file in hand, a New Blood subplot that was never resolved.
Considering there was no confrontation between Dexter and Batista in New Blood, which created an arguably disappointing New Blood finale, Resurrection now has the perfect opportunity to bring Batista back and make his character put Dexter in his crosshairs like Doakes and LaGuerta before him. Batista has more than enough natural motivation to avenge LaGuerta’s murder that would justify his return to the series. If Batista isn’t featured in Dexter: Resurrection, it would be a gigantic missed opportunity.

Dexter: Resurrection Can Fulfill The Angel & Dexter Scene That New Blood Ignored
Batista should try to track down & confront Dexter in Resurrection
A confrontation between the two original Dexter characters should be expected in Resurrection. Otherwise, the second Dexter sequel series runs the risk of making an even more frustrating entry into the franchise that will only upset previously disgruntled fans even further. There would be so much natural compelling tension if Batista was on the hunt for Dexter in Resurrection. Dexter lied to him all those years and hid the fact that he was responsible for so many murders that Miami Metro investigated, including LaGuerta’s death. Zayas, who just recently guest starred in The Bear season 3, has got to be in Dexter: Resurrection.
