We Can Be Heroes 2: Everything We Know About The Pedro Pascal Sequel

Netflix’s hit family superhero movie We Can Be Heroes doesn’t have a sequel yet, but there have been some promising updates on the development of We Can Be Heroes 2. Written and directed by Spy Kids creator Robert Rodriguez, We Can Be Heroes revolves around the world’s superheroes being abducted by alien invaders, and their superpowered children stepping up to the plate to save the day. The movie was praised for evoking the warm, nostalgic feel of a Saturday morning cartoon, and for the impressive work of its ensemble cast of lovable actors.

Since the ending of We Can Be Heroes leaves the door open for sequels and the movie was a huge hit with viewers on Netflix, discussions of a potential sequel quickly followed the film’s Christmas 2020 release. As with any fictional universe full of superheroes with a disparate range of powers and enemies, there are plenty of opportunities to expand We Can Be Heroes into a franchise. In the years since Rodriguez’s all-star superhero adventure arrived on Netflix, there have been some exciting updates on We Can Be Heroes 2.

While there’s been no official confirmation about which actors from the We Can Be Heroes cast will return for the sequel, Rodriguez’s emphasis on the kids’ ages seems to suggest the main cast will reprise their roles. YaYa Gosselin will almost certainly reprise her role as Missy Moreno while Hala Finley’s Ojo and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Ms. Granada could return after the first film’s twist ending.

Vivien Lyra Blair might get an expanded role in We Can Be Heroes 2 as Guppy, Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s youngest daughter. As for Sharkboy and Lavagirl themselves, Taylor Dooley might return as Lavagirl. Sharkboy was played by J.J. Dashnaw in a silent cameo in the first film due to original actor Taylor Lautner being unavailable, but that could change for the sequel.

Will Pedro Pascal Return For We Can Be Heroes 2?

Pascal’s Busy Schedule Might Conflict With The Sequel

Pedro Pascal looks on with the other superheroes in We Can Be Heroes

Whether Pedro Pascal returns in We Can Be Heroes 2 as Missy’s dad Marcus, a master swordsman with magnetic powers, will depend on his schedule. Pascal is one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood right now, and that might make We Can Be Heroes 2 a low priority for the Game of Thrones and Last of Us star.

Pascal is currently committed to playing the lead role of Joel Miller in The Last of Us and there is a slim chance that it won’t conflict with the filming schedule for We Can Be Heroes 2. However, Pascal’s schedule could open up in the future with as the story of The Last of Us progresses.

What Might Happen In We Can Be Heroes 2

Lavagirl using her powers in We Can Be Heroes

There’s no official plot synopsis for We Can Be Heroes 2, but the first movie did set up a sequel story. Ojo revealed that she was the Supreme Commander and Queen of the aliens and that the whole extra-terrestrial invasion was faked as a training exercise for the kids to join the Heroics. Following this twist, the superpowered kids will likely join their parents in the Heroics line-up.

A lot of the best sequels flip the original movie’s premise on its head. Spider-Man 2 took away Peter Parker’s superpowers; Terminator 2: Judgment Day turned the T-800 from a relentless killer into a relentless protector; Top Gun: Maverick turned Pete Mitchell from a roguish student into a roguish teacher. After We Can Be Heroes revolved around the kids’ efforts to save their parents, We Can Be Heroes 2 might revolve around the parents’ efforts to save their kids.
