In The New Gods #2 by Ram V, Evan Cagle, Jesse Longergan, and Francesco Segala, Mister Miracle makes the heartbreaking choice to leave his family behind so he can embark on a dangerous mission, writing a letter as his farewell to Big Barda and their infant daughter Liv. However, right when Scott prepares to leave, Barda stops him in his tracks.
Barda reveals that she knew Scott would do something he might regret and insists on joining him. Her refusal to let Mister Miracle put himself at risk shows how deeply she cares for him, as this Justice League couple uproots their life for one another’s sake.

The mission Mister Miracle plans to carry out is treacherous, hence why his intention is to exclude his loved ones from it. Orion has informed him that a New God known as Kamal has been born, and because of the potential threat he could pose as Darkseid’s replacement, he has been ordered to kill the child. However, he gives Scott the chance to find the boy first and save his life. Mister Miracle refuses to turn his back on a child in need, despite his remorse about abandoning his family, but what he fails to factor in is that Big Barda would feel the same way.

Scott tries to leave his family behind for their safety, while Barda gives up that safety to join her husband on his mission.
