Faster has been thrilling audiences with its nonstop action, including an exciting car chase that showcases the main character, Jimmy Cullen’s, car. The movie follows Jimmy Cullen who, upon being released from prison, seeks revenge on those involved in his brother’s death 10 years prior. Faster‘s cast is led by action star Dwayne Johnson along with several other well-known actors who bring the gritty characters to life.
Though Faster was not very successful at the box office and holds a meager 41% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, new Netflix audiences are enjoying Faster for its pure entertainment value. Johnson’s Cullen has one goal, and he sets out to accomplish it with his impressive classic car. While Johnson has driven his fair share of impressive vehicles throughout his Hollywood career, his car in Faster is certainly unique.
Dwayne Johnson’s Cullen Drives A 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle In Faster
Cullen’s Car Is Its Own Character In Faster
In Faster, Dwayne Johnson’s character, Jimmy Cullen, drives a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS which he retrieves after his release from prison. The car serves almost as its own character, especially in the scene in which Cullen engages in a car chase with Killer. While Chevelles in general are well-known cars, the 1970 Chevelle was particularly well-received, so it makes sense that a character like Jimmy Cullen would drive a car known for being quite fast and well-made.

However, viewers who are fans of classic cars will notice that there is actually more to Cullen’s car than there may first seem. While the front of the car looks like a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, the back of the car looks like the 1971 or 1972 model instead. The movie used the 1971 and 1972 cars with alterations to the grille and headlights in order not to damage any 1970 Chevelles, since they are considered more valuable (via Street Muscle Magazine).
How Dwayne Johnson’s Car In Faster Compares To The Vehicles He Drives In The Fast & Furious Movies
Johnson’s Chevelle In Faster Is Very Different To His Cars In The Fast & Furious Franchise
Aside from Jimmy Cullen’s Chevrolet Chevelle, Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to driving impressive cars in his movies. As a main character in the Fast & Furious franchise, Luke Hobbs has driven a variety of unique cars. In his first appearance in the series, Fast Five, Luke Hobbs is introduced driving a Gurkha LAPV, an armored vehicle used by military or law enforcement officials, setting up Hobbs’s interest in powerful cars.
In the
Fast & Furious
movies, Hobbs’s vehicles are often great for protection, whereas in
Faster
, much as the title implies, Cullen’s Chevelle is built for speed.
While Hobbs’s cars in the Fast & Furious movies are undoubtedly impressive, they are all noticeably different from Cullen’s 1970 Chevelle in one key way. Aside from a customized Harley-Davidson that Hobbs drives in Hobbs & Shaw, Luke Hobbs’s vehicles are all much larger than a Chevelle. In the Fast & Furious movies, Hobbs’s vehicles are often great for protection, whereas in Faster, much as the title implies, Cullen’s Chevelle is built for speed.
