The new Star Wars TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, takes place early on in the New Republic era, when the original trilogy heroes are still quite active in the galaxy. This era in Star Wars canon has been championed by The Mandalorian, which was the first on-screen story to take place in the years between the original Star Wars trilogy and the sequel trilogy. Beginning 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian has since progressed about 2 or 3 years in-universe, which is where Skeleton Crew comes into play.
The Mandalorian and its spin-off TV shows, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, have both hinted at what the original trilogy heroes are up to, which informs where they are during Skeleton Crew as well. As heroes of the Rebel Alliance, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo are all still very influential figures in the galaxy, which means their actions can easily affect stories such as Skeleton Crew. Here’s what these three heroes are up to during this particular story, and how they could potentially influence it.
Luke Skywalker Is Forming The New Jedi Order
He’s Looking For Students & Artifacts
Luke’s biggest priority during this era is establishing the New Jedi Order, which is no small feat. This has been explored in The Book of Boba Fett, which offered audiences their first full look at Luke’s Jedi Temple on Ossus in live-action. Grogu was meant to be Luke’s first student, but after training together for about a year or so, Luke offered Grogu the choice to either continue his Jedi training or return to his father, Din Djarin. Grogu chose his Mandalorian guardian and left, placing Luke back at square one.

Everything You Need To Watch Before Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
With Skeleton Crew now on the horizon, here’s all the Star Wars content you’ll want to watch to prepare yourself for the exciting adventure to come.
This is where the Jedi is at during the events of Skeleton Crew. While Luke is still constructing his Jedi Temple and searching for students, he’s also traveling the galaxy looking for Jedi artifacts, attempting to learn more about those who came before him. Given that Skeleton Crew seems to be focusing on pirates who are seeking their own treasure, it’s not out of the realm of imagination that paths could cross with this Jedi – though it does seem unlikely to have a cameo of that size in the “Mandoverse” again.
Leia Is A New Republic Senator
And Leader Of The Defense Council
While Luke is building the Jedi Order from the ground-up, Leia is attempting to do the same with the New Republic. While Mon Mothma is leading this effort as the chancellor, Leia is still an important part of this work, especially given her status as a vital leader of the Rebel Alliance – and the daughter of the well-respected Bail Organa. Of course, as revealed in Ahsoka, Leia isn’t like the other senators of the New Republic. She prefers to take action whenever she can.
Leia is also raising her son, Ben Solo, with Han, as the baby was born right after the official end of the Galactic Civil War.
Leia is the leader of the Defense Council, which gives her the chance to help peers like General Hera Syndulla whenever she can. This gives her the opportunity to somewhat replicate the role she had in the Rebellion, while also still remaining within her political limits as a senator. It also establishes Leia as a key figure in the New Republic’s efforts throughout the galaxy to thwart any remaining Imperial Remnant threats. In the novel Bloodline, Leia is quite concerned with criminal activity in the Outer Rim, which could make the events of Skeleton Crew stand out to her.
What Are Han Solo & Chewie Doing During Skeleton Crew?
Back To Somewhat Familiar Shenanigans
As for Han Solo and Chewbacca, the iconic duo are up to things that are quite similar to their old antics, but for better causes. In the years after the Galactic Civil War ended, Han owns and runs a reputable shipping company in addition to participating in races for charity. While completing this work, Han travels throughout the galaxy to a variety of different systems, all the while working on ships. He’s very much in his sweet spot in that way, with Chewbacca remaining a loyal companion through it all.

Where Does Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Fit Into The Timeline?
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the next TV show to be released in the franchise, and its place in the Star Wars timeline is quite interesting.
Of course, all the while, Han is busy being a present and caring husband to Leia and father to Ben. While Han and Leia do eventually end up going their separate ways due to Ben’s fall to the dark side as Kylo Ren, that’s still many, many years away. Many of the pirates and smugglers expected to show up during Skeleton Crew likely know who Han is, which makes him perhaps the most likely character to at least be mentioned in the new Star Wars TV show – though his influence could be present in a variety of different ways.
