Why Jessica Jones Is The One Defenders Character Who HAD To Appear In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Jessica Jones is confirmed to be appearing in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, the one Defender who absolutely had to be included in Matt Murdock’s army. As seen at the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Daredevil makes it his mission to resist Mayor Fisk and his major hold over New York City, promising to build an army of allies to help him fight back against the former Kingpin and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. As such, it’s recently been revealed that Jessica Jones will apparently join Daredevil’s new mission in the upcoming MCU season.

Revealed at Disney Upfronts 2025, Marvel Television confirmed Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The only other Defender besides Daredevil to have received three seasons of her own Netflix show before the dawn of Disney+, it’s going to be very exciting to see Jones return and the continuation of her story. While it would be amazing to eventually see all the Defenders reunite to take on Fisk, there are a few key reasons why Jessica Jones’ return in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is the most important.

Jessica Jones Doesn’t Have A Secret Identity

It’s Going To Be Hard For Her To Hide

As established in her original Netflix series, Jessica Jones was fairly well known in her pocket of New York. Not only was Jessica a publicly known private investigator with Alias Investigations, but she has also appeared on the news. After all, the Netflix series did see Jessica becoming the subject of controversy on more than one occasion.

It’s also important to note that Jessica Jones has no secret identity, costume, or mask like Matt Murdock’s Daredevil, Danny Rand’s Iron Fist, or even Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. There’s effectively no way for Jessica to hide as well as other vigilantes might, especially in the face of a citywide crackdown headed by Mayor Fisk. Having put the whole of New York under martial law in Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s ending, it’s not hard to imagine that Jessica could become a prime target, motivating her to join up with Daredevil to take the fight to Kingpin.

It’s also worth noting that Jessica Jones season 2 had references to Captain America: Civil War’s Sokovia Accords, the MCU legislation requiring the registration of powered/enhanced individuals. As seen across the board with Marvel shows at the time, the Sokovia Accords were viewed as a mandatory measure for the enhanced or gifted. This was especially true for those who presented themselves as a clear danger to public safety, like Jessica Jones’ mother.

10 Biggest Unanswered Questions After Daredevil: Born Again That Season 2 Must Answer

Daredevil: Born Again’s first season has come to an exciting close, but the series has left many questions season 2 will have to address.

Having worked with the police in an attempt to have her mother sent to the super-prison known as The Raft, the second season implied that Jessica Jones is more than likely on an official index of some kind due to the Accords. Even if she didn’t sign anything or register outright, Jessica has likely been monitored ever since, especially after Jessica Jones season 3, when her best friend ended up in the Raft. This means that anything officially on file about Jones will likely be available to Kingpin, making it pretty easy for his Anti-Vigilante Task Force to target her.

It’s also worth noting that Jessica Jones also had some great chemistry with Matt Murdock in Netflix’s Defenders, and the duo worked very well together. Beyond calls for Spider-Man to appear in the MCU show, Jessica Jones has been one of the biggest heroes fans have wanted to see return in Daredevil: Born Again, so it’s pretty cool that she’s been confirmed for the next season. After all, she is objectively one of the most popular and successful Netflix heroes next to Daredevil and The Punisher, so it makes sense that Marvel Studios would want to include Jessica Jones in “Daredevil’s Army” as soon as possible.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is expected to release in March of next year, streaming on Disney+.
