One of the internet’s most famous Vocaloids and Japan’s most popular virtual idols, Hatsune Miku is officially getting her own anime movie which has just revealed a new exciting trailer and release date. Easily one of the biggest internet sensations of the 2010s, Project Sekai’s new anime movie is set to revive the Hatsune Miku fandom once more.
According to a post on X by Project Sekai’s official handle, Hatsune Miku is set to start in a new movie produced by P.A. Works called Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing which is expected to release in theaters across Japan on January 17, 2025. the announcement was also accompanied by a stunning trailer and music sung by Miku herself.
The movie will be directed by Hata Hiroyuki who has most notably worked on the storyboards for Dr. Stone, Squid Girl, and directed the series Recently, my sister is unusual. At present, no other information has been revealed about whether the film will be released internationally or made available through streaming platforms.

Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing Releases in 2025
Besides the new trailer, Project Sekai has also revealed a new key visual for the upcoming film featuring a glitching hologram of Hatsune Miku hunched over in the middle of a crowded crosswalk. As the title suggests, the anime movie will likely be set in the world of Project Sekai, the popular mobile rhythm game centered around the beloved mascot and virtual idol.
That said, this is not Hatsune Miku‘s first anime debut as the game also received a series of animated shorts also produced by Studio P.A. Works back in September 2023.
