Margot Robbie recalled slapping Leonardo DiCaprio in the face instead of kissing him in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. Based on Jordan Belfort’s memoir of the same name that documented his time as a Wall Street stockbroker until his eventual conviction for financial fraud, the film stars DiCaprio in the lead role and Robbie as Belfort’s second wife. The Wolf of Wall Street marked the Australian actor’s first major film role.
Speaking on the Talking Pictures podcast, Robbie revealed her audition for the film involved scenes that ended with their characters kissing. She admitted that she was excited to kiss DiCaprio but changed her mind at the last minute and “walloped him in the face.” The actor recalled the room being “dead silent for what felt like an eternity,” and Scorsese and DiCaprio “burst out laughing,” though she was certain that she’d get arrested and lose her career. Check out what she said below:
I thought, “I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this.” And then I thought nah. And just walloped him in the face. It was dead silent for what felt like an eternity, but was probably three seconds.
They just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard. They said, “That was great.” I was thinking, “I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault or battery. Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot.” And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter.
What This Means For The Wolf Of Wall Street
Margot Robbie Has Everything To Do With Shaping Naomi
Margot Robbie had everything to do with the success of her breakout role Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street. In the same interview, the actor admitted that she took matters into her own hands a lot during the making of the film. Even though Robbie was only in her early 20s, she pushed hard for her vision of Naomi, including insisting on the full-frontal nude scene, which was her idea.

How Accurate The Wolf Of Wall Street Is To The True Story
The Wolf of Wall Street is based on an elaborate memoir written by Jordan Belfort himself, raising questions about both the book and film’s accuracy.
Robbie’s risky improvisation did have merits. Naomi is fierce, seductive, and unpredictable in the highly rated The Wolf of Wall Street. There is more than one scene where Naomi reacts shockingly in the way only she could understand. Later in her marriage with Jordan, Naomi poured a full cup of cold water down Jordan’s head to wake him up. Robbie’s improvision aligns with the personality of her character, which also became a key aspect of Naomi.
Our Take On Margot Robbie’s Performance In The Wolf Of Wall Street
Naomi Is Margot Robbie’s Breakthrough
The Wolf of Wall Street has one of Robbie’s best performances to date. As the woman who becomes an obsession with Jordan and made him leave his first wife, Robbie did a very convincing job portraying Naomi, who’s a master of seduction and mystery, giving her a unique identity outside of being Jordan’s beautiful second wife. Naomi is a force of nature. She will defend herself when not respected, and she proves to be just as resourceful and witty as Jordan when the FBI comes knocking.
However, Jordan’s relationship and marriage is turbulent and tragic. Substance abuse and other illegal activities eventually bring an end to their marriage in The Wolf of Wall Street. It’s almost a surprise that Jordan and Naomi lasted so long, but perhaps her nonsense made sense to his nonsense. Because of Margot Robbie, Naomi is a compelling and rich character in The Wolf of Wall Street.
