Poison Ivy’s Best Armor Costume Has a Superpowered Twist, Built From a Legitimately God-Tier Power

Warning: Contains spoilers for Poison Ivy #27!!Poison Ivy has long been one of the most capable villains in Gotham, but her recent intense battle with former mentor Jason Woodrue unveiled a new level of her power. As Pamela set out to destroy the Green Man for good, she tapped deeper into the Green than ever. She didn’t simply wield it against her opponent, she crafted armor from the “Living Green” itself.

In Poison Ivy #27, by G. Willow Wilson, Marcio Takara, Arif Prianto, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Poison Ivy corners a member of the Order of the Green Knight ecoterrorism group and demands to know why they’re falsely claiming her as their leader. She quickly learns that the group knows a plenty about her – including the recent battle with the Green Man – as the supporter stammers that she’s the one who wore “armor made from the Living Green.”

Ivy’s link to the Green defines her. It accounts for her deep bond with the planet and her powers, but that connection has clearly reached such a peak that the Green itself shields Pamela Isley.

Poison Ivy Forged Her Armor from ‘The Living Green’

Losing Her Connection to the Green Allowed Her to Reforge a Stronger One

Poison Ivy's Living Green Armor

The Poison Ivy solo series kicked off with Pam still reeling from her shattered connection to the Green. She had no real access to her old powers and, in lieu of that, was ready to wipe out humanity with the Lamia spores. Instead, her journey led her to a deeper understanding of herself and humanity, and ultimately resulted to restoring her ties to the force. She’s now so thoroughly rooted in it that she shaped it into physical armor, and the Green breathed life back into Poison Ivy when she later succumbed to her injuries from the battle with Woodrue.

Debuting in Poison Ivy #22, The “Living Green” armor was already one of Pam’s most breathtaking looks. It went beyond her usual style of twisting, trailing vines and instead made her look like a God forged by the Green. Now, thanks to the ecoterrorist’s breathless admiration, that’s confirmed. Pamela Isley wasn’t just taking on a new aesthetic with her intimidating helmet and pure organic armor. Instead, she turned her body into a vessel for the Green and confronted Jason Woodrue completely wrapped in its protection. Not only did she reform her connection to the Green, she became part of it.

Poison Ivy never set out to become a villain. Her goal was never to terrorize or harm. Instead, from the moment she underwent Woodrue’s experiment, she’s sought to protect and has proven that she’ll fight to her last breath for the planet. Pam isn’t an avatar of the Green in the same way as characters like Swamp Thing, yet that doesn’t seem to diminish her affiliation with it. As she continues to change and grow, the connection does the same. Poison Ivy’s most jaw-dropping armor is proof that she’s a living goddess of the Green and reaching new heights of power.

Poison Ivy #27 is available now from DC Comics.

Poison Ivy

Inducted into Batman’s rogues gallery in the 1960s, Poison Ivy is a metahuman who terrorizes Gotham with her poisonous touch and control over plant life. A misanthropic eco-terrorist, Poison Ivy is also depicted as an anti-hero, using her powers in attempts to regrow the environment in the wake of pollution and deforestation. Together with her lover Harley Quinn, the two are always ready to wreak havoc in Gotham.
