If you feel like you are not cruising but fumbling today’s Connections puzzle, you might need a bit of a helping hand. There are a fair number of different things going on today, with a lot of different words thrown out that have many meanings. The context always matters but today it likely matters even more. If you want to try a new type of puzzle, the NYT Letter Boxed puzzle is a challenging but fun one to try. You get as many guesses as you need, unlike in Connections, so things do not feel as desperate as you continue to make guesses. In fact, you will need to make several guesses in order to even figure out if you are in the right ballpark. You can continue to put the right pieces together until you get the correct answer or the day ends.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
DECEMBER 10 #548
If things don’t look to be going well on today’s puzzle, we have the right clues to make things go a little better. You will want to pay close attention to some of the words, as you can glean the right context from some of the other words in the puzzle if you can match them up. There is one fake context that seems quite obvious when you first start the puzzle, but you will want to be careful not to fall for that trick and instead get the puzzle finished well.
- One category is about words that show you what something is
- One category is about words that describe different parts of the same journey
- One category is about words that you use when you are searching for something
- One category is four different proper nouns that are missing a crucial component

CALL |

LABEL |
NAME |
This one tried to slip by me as I focused on other categories first. However, once I did notice it it became a little easier. If you CALL something, you are using its NAME to differentiate it from others like it. DUB and LABEL are the same kind of words, just with different meanings. Luckily, today the easy category did feel fairly easy, and there was not a lot of crossover with the other categories. And by eliminating those words, you can more easily solve the rest of the categories.

PARTS OF A FLIGHT |

CRUISE |
TAKEOFF |
TAXI |
TOUCHDOWN |
This one included some of the tricky words today. The main one was TOUCHDOWN, as it looked a lot like there might be a fake American Football category today. However, if you look around far enough, you’ll find there are only really two words that could fit in that category, and you will want to pivot quite quickly. However, this one is still fairly tricky even without that, as these words do not necessarily scream “flight” as they all have very different meanings in other contexts. CRUISE and TAXI also look like they could be in their own category.

FISH |
FUMBLE |
ROOT |
RUMMAGE |
This was the first category I got today, and I found it after looking at FISH and ROOT. This might be because of the association with Gollum in my head, as that was about all I thought of when solving this category, but it was fairly easy to figure it out because of that. I won’t complain, even if I do not like having that little creep living rent-free in my head. But at least he helped us figure it out, and I could move onto the next category.

INLAND |
OLIVIA |
RAN |
WANDA |
This one was hard to figure out unless you came to it last. The words don’t have many similarities, except for the two names that both look like general female names. However, they are all just the names of countries with the first letter missing, which is a type of Connections puzzle that is hard to solve. I always have a hard time with these ones, so it is always best when you come to it last.
