Warning: Spoilers ahead for Tracker season 2, episode 8, “The Night Movers.”Tracker season 2 delivers a crucial development in its fall finale, progressing the disturbing case of Gina Picket. Justin Hartley’s procedural following self-proclaimed “rewardist” Colter Shaw introduces Gina’s case in the season 2 premiere, establishing a cold case for the tracker that has haunted him for a decade. Colter meets with Gina’s sister, Camille (Floriana Lima), in episode 8, “The Night Movers,” and his former love interest discusses how she wants to leave her sister’s mystery behind and move on. The CBS Tracker character even ends their on-again-off-again romance.
However, at the end of Tracker season 2, episode 8, Colter rounds a corner in Gina’s mystery when he gets a lead in her case. As Colter concludes his most recent missing-persons investigation, Tracker season 2’s Keaton (Brent Sexton) calls the tracker with a lead on Gina’s disappearance. The former cop has obtained a vital informant, and Colter finds that Keaton has brutally tortured him to elicit answers. As such, the Tracker season 2, part 1 finale promises Gina’s mystery will continue, setting up exciting developments for the second half of the procedural’s sophomore run.
8 Colter Makes Progress On Gina’s Case
It’s Possible He’ll Find Her Alive
The biggest question throughout Tracker season 2 is whether Gina is alive. After recruiting Keaton in Tracker episode 5, Colter meets the former cop in an undisclosed location after the conclusion of episode 7’s case. Keaton takes Colter to an abandoned building and reveals that he has a person of interest in Gina’s case: a man named Alex Silva (Johnny Rey Diaz), whom Keaton has been torturing for information.
Alex points to Frank Whales (Ryan Dorsey), whom Colter suspects of Gina’s disappearance. The informant tells Colter that he and Whales worked for someone called “Teacher,” who used the young men to lure girls to locations where he could take them. Alex implies Teacher had a ring of men involved in his operation, saying, “He said he kept a long line of pretty boys to do his bidding,” coercing them via blackmail.

Tracker Is Forgetting Season 2’s Biggest Mystery & Making It Worse
Tracker season 2 has a lingering mystery from its premiere episode, but it has completely ignored it, making things worse for the hit CBS show.
When pressed on how it relates to Gina’s disappearance, Alex suggests that Teacher had Whales lure Gina. Alex describes where he thinks they took Gina, “the Farm,” recounting how Teacher said he “planted things there.” When Colter shows Alex a picture of Gina, he confirms that she was involved in the covert operation. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Colter asking Alex if Gina is alive. Still, it’s nice to see Gina’s mystery progress after Tracker season 2 ignored the central plot for weeks.
After its December 1 fall finale,
Tracker
returns on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 8pm Eastern.
Tracker leaves Gina’s fate open, but there’s reason to hope, since Colter typically finds his victims alive. Alex implies that Whales lured Gina to a place where Teacher plants things, suggesting Gina’s journey could have continued rather than ended in murder. The Farm could be a compound where the unidentified villain keeps young people against their will. Thus, Colter could discover Gina while infiltrating the Farm, possibly with help from Keaton or Jensen Ackles’ Russell Shaw.
7 Camille Calls It Quits With Colter
Gina’s Safe Return Could Reunite The Couple
In the opening scene of Tracker season 2, episode 8, Colter and Camille grab a bite at a local restaurant. The casual couple exchange banter before Shaw presses Camille on why they’re meeting, saying they don’t usually get together like this. Camille reveals her true intentions, saying she wants to put her sister’s disappearance behind her. For her, this includes their romance, as the relationship reminds her of her tragedy.

Despite Camille saying she wants to stop looking for Gina, Colter’s break in the case could bring the sweethearts back together. After 10 years, Colter knew he needed outside help on Gina’s case, and Keaton’s fresh perspective restores Gina’s case with hope that she could be alive. As Colter hones in on the Farm and what happened, he’ll undoubtedly reach out to Camille about the latest developments. It’s possible Gina’s safe return will allow the couple to revive their romance.
The second half of
Tracker
season 2 can answer whether Colter’s relationship with Camille will progress or if the rewardist will move on from the romance.
Tracker season 2 also brings back Billie Matalon (Sofia Pernas), a fellow rewardist with an informal relationship with Colter. Colter also has excellent chemistry with Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene), and the series has hinted at their potential romance in season 2 — despite Hartley’s comments suggesting otherwise. The second half of Tracker season 2 can answer whether Colter’s relationship with Camille will progress or if the rewardist will move on from the romance.
6 Keaton Proves A Useful Ally
Colter Teams Up With An Ex-Cop
Tracker season 2, episode 8 proves Keaton is a valuable ally after he and Colter join forces in episode 6. Colter meets Keaton while they are both investigating around a waterfall, where three friends went missing. After teaming up on the case, Colter helps Keaton resolve his cold case, leaving the retired cop in Colter’s debt. At the end of “Trust Fall,” Colter cashes in on the favor and asks Keaton to investigate Gina’s case.

Tracker Is Finally Good Again
Tracker season 2 redeems itself after a string of odd mysteries that complicate the show’s grounded premise that was starting to threaten its success.
Keaton proves that he has what it takes to be a part of Colter Shaw’s Tracker team when he locates an informant on Gina’s case. By teaming up Colter and Keaton for more than just a single episode, the series sets the tracker up with a long-term ally and someone who can help him with investigations, possibly including the one centered on his father. That said, Keaton’s methods are more brutal than Colter’s, which could cause conflict — even if it’s the force needed to solve his family’s mystery.
5 Colter Gets Involved In A Disappearing Operation
Colter Investigates A Disappearance In San Fransisco
During the weekly case in “The Night Movers,” Colter uncovers a local operation that “disappears” people while searching for a missing person named Lucas Jones (Michael Taylor). Although Lucas is supposed to be dead, his sister, Alicia (Morgan Taylor Campbell), believes her brother is alive. After Colter confirms that she’s right, he stumbles upon the business that helped fake his death. The operation contrasts with Colter’s work, but he finds it also has distinct parallels.

Tracker Season 2 Trailer Makes Me Realize The 1 Vital Change That Justin Hartley’s CBS Series Needs
The trailer for Tracker season 2 made me realize that a vital change of pace could make Justin Hartley’s most-watched CBS series even better.
Colter works with Barbie Lee (Freda Foh Shen), who helped Lucas disappear, to get a confession from Detective Goodman (Jolie Jenkins). The detective was working with a local mayoral candidate, Tim Crosby (Ted Cole), to cover up a string of crimes surrounding an incriminating sex tape. Lucas was planning to break the sex tape after he found it on Crosby’s hard drive, leading to a major political scandal. This explains why he wanted to disappear. Colter notices how his and Barbie’s work is similar but remarks he wants to stick to finding people.
4 Reenie Greene Isn’t In The Tracker Season 2, Part 1 Finale
Colter Is Missing His Go-To Legal Professional
Tracker‘s fall finale excludes Colter Shaw’s go-to legal professional, Reenie Greene, who regularly assists her friend with cases and vice versa. Colter manages to get by without Reenie’s help in episode 8, but she has several appearances in season 2. Reenie opens her law firm in the Tracker season 2 premiere, so while she’s had ample screen time, the lawyer is probably busy establishing her own business in “The Night Movers.”
Reenie is perhaps the most charismatic
Tracker
character, so it makes sense that the series is building her independent storyline rather than entangling her in Colter’s cold case.
Still, Tracker isn’t complete without Reenie’s character, as she perfectly complements Colter’s reserved personality with her robust charm. Hopefully, keeping Reenie out of the fall finale sets up the lawyer to return in a big way when the procedural returns in 2025. Reenie is perhaps the most charismatic Tracker character, so it makes sense that the series is building her independent storyline rather than entangling her in Colter’s cold case.
3 Colter Shaw Still Hasn’t Solved His Family Mystery
Who Killed Ashton Shaw?
As Tracker season 2 enters its mid-season break, it leaves audiences in the dark about Colter Shaw’s family mystery. The mystery of who killed Colter’s father in Tracker hangs over the rewardist’s head throughout the show. However, the CBS series nearly touched the mystery in season 2. Jensen Ackles returns as Russell Shaw in Tracker season 2, episode 2, and the brothers make a minor dent in the case when they discover their father had a tense connection to the Department of Defense (DOD).

5 Best Theories About Who Killed Colter’s Father In Tracker
With the death of Colter Shaw’s father – Ashton Shaw – serving as a central narrative of Tracker season 1, it’s natural to wonder what happened.
Still, Colter and Russell’s development hasn’t gone anywhere despite being eight episodes into the show’s second season. The circumstances surrounding the strange death of Colter’s father — and how the rewardist deals with it while navigating individual cases — defines Tracker season 1. While Colter has been busy with the Gina Picket mystery, Tracker must add an exciting development to its central plot, proving the skilled investigator is still making headway on his case.
2 Russell & Dory Shaw Will Appear In Tracker Season 2, Part 2
Colter May Make Headway On His Family Mystery
With many stones left open-ended heading into the fall break, there’s a lot to expect from Tracker season 2, part 2 — and hopefully, it delivers on that. Tracker season 2 will undoubtedly feature the return of Colter’s sister, Dory Shaw (Melissa Roxburgh). Colter plays phone tag with Dory while having dinner with Camille in the opening of episode 8, implying that the siblings are staying in touch. This means they’re likely to meet soon.
Dory’s return could lead to significant developments in Colter’s family mystery, since the rewardist learned that his sister has a box of Ashton’s files in the Tracker season 1 finale. Colter can finally ask Dory what was in the box in season 2, part 2, and it could be the most significant development in the mystery yet. Part 2 will also feature the return of Jensen Ackles’ Russell Shaw, who showrunners promised would be in more than one episode of season 2. He’s only appeared once thus far.
1 How The Tracker Season 2 Finale Was Received
Tracker Season 2 Is A Hit
The Tracker season 2 finale was positively received, garnering the highest rating on IMDb of any episode from the season up to that point. In fact, the rating tops nearly every episode of the series so far. The only Tracker episode that outranks the initial response to “The Night Movers” is the penultimate episode of Tracker season 1, “Off the Books.” This installment marked Ackles’ series debut, which was clearly a hit with viewers. With the response to “The Night Movers,” it’s safe to say season 2 is building on season 1’s success.
Tracker
episodes leading up to the fall finale also performed well, so the series set itself up to succeed when it returns for season 2, part 2.
Tracker episodes leading up to the fall finale also performed well, so the series set itself up to succeed when it returns for season 2, part 2. The series must build on Colter’s relationships with Dory and Russell to progress his family mystery in the second half of the season and continue the show’s upward trend. Part 2 should conclude the mystery of Gina Picket’s disappearance as well, giving the series more time to focus on what happened to Colter’s father.
