Yanagi, the fearless second in command of Section 6, has joined Zenless Zone Zero, making it crucial to understand her best build and the budget alternates. Yanagi is an Electric Anomaly character, which benefits her on two fronts. The first is that Anomaly units have taken over as the top option for damage dealers, though Attack units can still function adequately. Second, her only competition was Grace Howard and her best builds, who, while a popular pick, could not reach the same damage levels.
Yanagi’s kit may initially seem confusing, but it simplifies with experience. Her quick attack playstyle revolves around her two stances: Jougen, which boosts Electric damage, and Kagen, which boosts penetration ratio. She switches these stances using her regular Special Attack, but the previous stances’ buff will linger for eight seconds. Her main rotation comes when she uses her EX Special Attack to enter an exceptional Shinranbanshou State that allows her to bypass her physical basic attacks, maximize electric damage, and deal extra disorder damage with her Polarity Disorder passive.
Best W-Engine For Yanagi
A Horde Of Good Alternatives
Yanagi’s best W-Engine in ZZZ will be her signature Timeweaver. This option gives Yanagi a passive boost in her Anomaly Buildup Rate and Anomaly Proficiency whenever any variant of her Special Attack hits an enemy. Along with that, if Yanagi is built to have 375 Anomaly Proficiency or more, she will get a damage buff for any Disorder damage. This option makes her great for any damage style since she can trigger solo element Disorder but will show up more often in multi-element teams.

Zenless Zone Zero: Best Seth Build (W-Engine, Teams, Drive Discs)
Seth is a Defense Agent and deals Electric-type damage. He is a great support that can provide shields, increase Electric Anomoly, and deal damage.
The next best option is a tie between the A-Rank Electric Lip Gloss and Grace’s signature Fusion Compiler. The former will give two sizable boosts to damage, while the Fusion Compiler will give an Attack bonus and an Anomaly Proficiency boost. Thus, the choice between the two comes down to how often players wish to trigger Disorder.
The caveat regarding Lip Gloss & Fusion Compiler is that they are more challenging to get, coming from the Battle Pass and Standard Banner.
The best free-to-play option for Yanagi is Weeping Gemini. This is mainly used as a stat boost while giving a large chunk of Anomaly Proficiency at max stacks. However, since this W-Engine can be made in-game, it is the easiest to get to S5 for the maximum bonus.
Best Drive Discs For Yanagi
Disorder Or Pure Electricty
Given Yanagi’s flexibility when it comes to dealing damage, there are two main sets of Disc Drives in ZZZ she can capitalize on. The first is Chaos Jazz, giving +30 Anomaly proficiency at two pieces while increasing Fire and Electric damage by 15% and an off-field damage boost at four pieces. This is the safest set for Yanagi in dual-element teams due to its lack of restrictions but also due to her current top pairing with Burnice.
The other set, which is best for Mono Electric teams, is Thunder Metal. This will give a 10% Electric Damage boost at two pieces and a 28% Attack bonus if the target is Shocked. This option is harder to utilize given that, while Yanagi can work in Mono Electric, she is better suited for Disorder teams. However, using it as a two-piece bonus for a full Chaos Jazz can work well.
Other options for the extra two-piece bonus for Yanagi are numerous. The most common is Freedom Blues due to the extra Anomaly Proficiency for more damage and better overall stats. The other options would be Puffer Electro for extra Pen Ratio or Hormone Punk for 10% more Attack.

For stats, Disk 4 should be Anomaly Proficiency, Disk 5 should be Electric Damage, and then Attack percentage for Disk 6. These three options maximize her overall damage while ensuring one is not over-capped to the point of bringing in marginal returns. The best sub-stats on Disks include Anomaly Proficiency, Attack percentage, and Penetration.
Best Teams For Yanagi
A Good Start And A Promising Future
Yanagi’s best team is now paired with Burnice and then any top-tier support unit that can trigger disorder with them. The best options are Caesar’s crowd control build, or Seth for a pseudo-stun unit, or Piper for overall team buffs. This team works well for Yanagi since Burnice doesn’t need a lot of on-field time to trigger her Anomaly and does most of her damage off-field. This allows Yanagi to spam her rotations for heavy Anomaly uptime and frequent Disorder bursts.

I Want To Love Zenless Zone Zero, But There’s One Major Thing Holding It Back
Zenless Zone Zero has plenty of positives, but there’s one key issue that I think is holding back the game’s combat from reaching its full potential.
Mono Electric Yanagi teams can include any combination of Grace, Anby, Seth, or Rina. All these characters, except Grace, will not demand much field time and give Yanagi the time she needs to work. This option is also much easier for free-to-play players or to stretch their characters across multiple teams. The specific Bangboo will depend on the team, but Red Moccus, Electroboo, or Plugboo are the best picks.
A possible team for the future is pairing Yanagi with Miyabi and her dual elements in ZZZ. Early predictions seem to indicate that Yanagi and Miyabi will work well together as both wish to trigger Disorder often because of high built-in burst damage and to allow Miyabi to gain huge attack buffs. The one tricky part with this team will be that both will likely need to split field time, so it won’t be as simple as setting up an Anomaly with one character and then letting Yanagi dominate the field.
Overall, Yanagi has continued the recent dominance of Anomaly units and showcases perfectly why they can be so effective. She is a simple build with multiple team options that can be tuned to suit a specific playstyle. She may work best when she can control how long she stays active, but the dropoff isn’t too significant if she shares time appropriately. Though these options may change with future releases, this is how to build the top Anomaly unit Yanagi in Zenless Zone Zero.
